Say Her Name

On June 5, Breonna Taylor would have been turning 27 years old had she not been killed when Louisville, Kentucky police officers raided her home during a failed drug sting over 2 months ago.

Taylor, who was an emergency medical technician, was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and attended the University of Kentucky. Taylor’s family and friends said she lived a beautiful life. But that all changed within a blink of an eye on March 13, 2020. Taylor’s death went unreported in the media for weeks, but as more details emerged it was clear that her death was one that the world needed to know about.

And now, in serving the memory of Breonna Taylor’s life, and ensuring that justice is finally served, there are action items created by writer Cate Young.

  1. Sign the Change.org petition demanding justice.

  2. Donate to her family’s GoFundMe.

  3. Send an email to the Kentucky General Attorney. Simply input your own information and the rest will self-populate.

  4. Use your social media accounts for good by posting #BirthdayForBreonna and #SayHerName.

I Can’t Breathe

8 minutes, 46 seconds.

That’s how long a police officer kept his knee on George Floyd’s neck. George Floyd struggled, pleading for his life: “I can’t breathe,” until he drew his final breaths, calling for his mother.

8 minutes, 46 seconds — a father, a brother, a friend, an unarmed Black man was murdered on the street, in broad daylight. By a uniformed officer.
